I am a woman. I am a mom. I am a wife. I am a business owner. I am also designing the life and retirement of my dreams. We can have it all! I am living proof.
There is an abundance of articles circulating in major publications about women and their lack of confidence when it comes to investing money, and I am here to change that. Money is emotional. WHAT we plan for, WHY we plan, and WHO we plan for center around our most beloved people. How can this not be emotional?
In a recent survey conducted by 401K Specialist, women know exactly what they want to do with their money. Women workers dream of an active retirement including travel (70%), spending more time with family and friends (60%), pursuing hobbies (49%), working (25%), volunteering (24%), and taking care of grandchildren (21%).
Women possess a majority of the purchasing power today. Research conducted by investment firms and companies such as Invesco and Fidelity Investments provides further insights into the changing landscape of women’s financial engagement. Women are responsible for 89% of account openings and sign 80% of all checks, business and personal. Women are responsible for managing 75% of all family finances and 27% of all millionaires are women.
I don’t believe that women have a lack of confidence. I would contend it’s that women don’t have the right partner advising us on our most important financial decisions. We need our own personal CFO, a financial quarterback, advising us on how to design and build the life and retirement of our dreams. This is what I do. This is my specialty.
Women have expectations on how they want to be served, and I want to encourage women to continue to try to seek help and partnership from a financial advisor they respect and trust. These are some helpful tips to look for when trying to find the right financial partner and advisor for you:
Understand a Women’s Needs and Goals
Women often have different financial priorities and concerns than men, such as a longer life expectancy, caregiving responsibilities, and enhancing their lives. Your advisor should take these factors into consideration and customize their advice to satisfy these needs and goals.
Relationship-Focused
Women are often more relationship-focused and value personal connections. This means that your financial advisor should take the time to know you on a deeper level creating open and honest dialogue.
Learning Within Communities
Women seek out guidance and support from other females and value connecting and learning from each other. Look for an advisor who is facilitating these types of events or gatherings.
